Soviet jet-fighter MiG-21

Maly STORY

The aircraft began to be developed in the late 50s. It was the first Soviet triangular-wing supersonic fighter jet. Its design was all-metal with a mixed power scheme – carriers frames and skin.

The first flight of the MiG-21 made in 1959, completing the test program under the designation E-66. By 1960, the jet set two speed records at distances of 25 and 100 km: 2388 km/h and 2146 km/h, respectively.

After that, the aircraft went into mass production and was produced for 26 years until 1985. During this time, more than 10 thousand pieces were built only in the USSR. MiG-21 was sold to many countries around the world, and also produced under license in China, India and Czechoslovakia.

Model

I built the model in 1975. It was simple, and consistent with the then concept of the Maly – to make simple models for teenage children.

All that remains of that model is shown in the photo. This is a model that went through fire and water with me. I am very glad that it was generally preserved.
